NTWAB Announces Internship Opportunities

The NTWAB education committee is pleased to announce that the organization will offer two $2,500 stipends to support internships at horse racing media outlets in 2023. We intend for the stipends to be matched by the outlets offering the internships with the hope that our contribution can enable an outlet to more easily fund a paid summer internship experience. One of the stipends will be earmarked for a broadcast outlet, and the other for a print or digital outlet. The committee will work alongside the outlets to promote their internship and help source potential internship candidates.

We expect that supported outlets will construct an internship experience that is engaging and educational for the intern, ideally providing them the chance to leave the experience with one or more bylines/credits in published or broadcasted work. We expect outlets to allow the intern hands-on opportunities for news or feature coverage, ideally with the chance to attend race meetings or industry events as credentialed media.

We expect the intern to have a strong interest in horse racing, and are open to both a prospective intern with journalism or broadcast experience who wants to learn more about racing, or to someone with equine experience who wants to learn more about media. We are open to supporting virtual, in-person or hybrid internship experiences, depending upon the needs of the media outlet. The goal is to create or improve readiness of interns to be suitable candidates for entry-level positions in this field, if they so choose in future.

The committee will accept letters of application from interested outlets for the 2023 summer season. We request that outlets provide us a brief outline of the timeframe, salary match, and expected responsibilities for a summer intern by Jan. 15. Letters can come to natalie@paulickreport.com and tom@thisishorseracing.com.
